Historical Sites in Boston

Old North Church—Old North Church entered the history books on the night of April 18, 1975 when two lanterns were hung from the steeple as a signal from Paul Revere that the British were marching to Lexington and Concord by sea during the night began the American Revolution. Officially, the church is known as Christ Church in the City of Boston and is recognized as the oldest standing church building in Boston. Tours of the church and garden are available.

The Paul Revere House—Two miles from our hotel, The Paul Revere House is where you can tour the famed house, silversmith shop and learn about one of America's most famous patriots. Historical reenactors bring the story of Paul Revere and other Revolutionary characters to life in a fun and interactive way.

Bunker Hill Monument—Visit the site of the first battle of the Revolutionary War where the colonists met the trained forces of the British Army. This battle on June 17, 1775 that opened the Revolutionary War is marked by an elegant 221-foot granite obelisk and expansive field. The Bunker Hill Monument is a mile from Holiday Inn Boston Somerville and is adjacent to a monument and exhibition hall at Breed's Hill, where the majority of the fighting took place.

The Freedom Trail—Explore 16 historical sites that are located along the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail. The red-brick path will take you past such noted sites as The Boston Common, Old Corner Book Store, site of the Boston Massacre and the USS Constitution and many others.  Whether you start at the beginning and take the Freedom Trail all the way to the end or only visit portions of the trail, visiting the Freedom Trail will give you a new appreciation for American history.
